Several sources recently reported that Avon may be acquired by Natura Cosméticos SA. 

Natura & Co issued a public filing saying it has “engaged in discussions with Avon Products Inc. concerning a potential transaction involving both companies” and did not intend to comment further. The statement follows a report first issued by the Wall Street Journal. 

Now, Avon has issued a response — confirming that “there have been preliminary discussions with Natura & Co. regarding a potential transaction.”

Avon also stated that it won’t comment further at this time.

Natura bought the Body Shop retail chain in 2017. The Wall Street Journal first reported that the company is considering buying both Avon’s private-equity owned North American business and the London-based publicly traded company, which would join Avon — making it one company again.

Avon shares rose after the news first broke — rising 13 percent.
